In neurogenetic diseases, the brain is frequently malformed and patients present with intellectual disability, autism and epilepsy. However, a key unsolved issue is what cellular and molecular mechanisms underlie brain malformations and cognitive impairment.<\/h1>\n<h3>To address this unmet need, we use innovative large-scale neuroanatomical phenotyping screens in transgenic mouse models.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>An important line of research is on the role of WD40-repeat (WDR) genes, one of the largest eukaryotic gene families, \u00a0in brain development and neuronal connectivity.<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_1933\" style=\"width: 617px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1933\" class=\"wp-image-1933\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.ube.fr\/yalcingroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/155\/2021\/11\/Coverjpeg-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.ube.fr\/yalcingroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/155\/2021\/11\/Coverjpeg-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.ube.fr\/yalcingroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/155\/2021\/11\/Coverjpeg-768x490.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.ube.fr\/yalcingroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/155\/2021\/11\/Coverjpeg.jpg 1490w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1933\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Illustration by Helen Whitley to promote our work on mouse brain morphogenesis.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We hypothesize that the miswiring between neurons may contribute to the pathogenesis of neurological symptoms in a new class of diseases we refer to as \u201cWDRopathies\u201d. Over the last few years, we have identified a dozen of WDR genes implicated in murine corpus callosum development including <em>Atg16l1<\/em>, <em>Coro1c<\/em>, <em>Dmxl2<\/em>, <em>Eml1<\/em>, <em>Herc1<\/em>, <em>Hira<\/em>, <em>Kif21b<\/em>, <em>Nbeal1<\/em>, <em>Vps13b<\/em>, <em>Wdr37<\/em>, <em>Wdr47<\/em>, <em>Wdr52<\/em>, <em>Wdr89 <\/em>and <em>Wdr91<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The second line of research aims to understand why being a female protects your brain against brain malformation disorders in response to genetic mutation.
