Hougen, scientist emeritus fellow at the National Institute for Standard and Technology (NIST, Gaithersburg, USA) died in Taipei, Taiwan. He was 82 years old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jon Hougen changed the world of molecular spectroscopy with remarkable theoretical contributions for well over half a century. From the electronic Jahn-Teller effect to ro-vibrational large amplitude motions, Jon\u2019s work illuminates many fascinating problems from simple to complex molecules.\u00a0 He was one of the world leaders in applying the mathematical field of group theory to gas-phase spectroscopy, to analyze and understand the spectral signatures of the motion, rotation and vibration of molecules.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jon Hougen mentored young scientists and graduate students from all around the world, promoting both excellence and ethics in science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are proud to announce that the HRMS Colloquium offers a special Travel Award this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two PhD students will be selected by the HRMS committee to receive\u00a0500 \u20ac\u00a0each to help them to participate in the HRMS 2023 Conference in Dijon. Application for the award is upon abstract submission (<em>check the dedicated checkbox \u201cJon Hougen Award\u201d on the abstract submission site<\/em>). The selected laureates must attend the HRMS conference in person.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selection criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PhD\u00a0candidates must submit an abstract or be\u00a0co-author of an abstract.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PhD candidates from any country should not have received their PhD degree by the date of the meeting.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PhD candidates must provide a one-page CV.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A letter from the PhD adviser supporting the application is mandatory.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PhD students from institutions or countries having financial restrictions are encouraged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CV of the PhD candidate and letter of the PhD adviser must be sent to Isabelle KLEINER (<a href=\"mailto:isabelle.kleiner@lisa.ipsl.fr\">isabelle.kleiner@lisa.ipsl.fr<\/a>) by <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>July 1, 2023<\/strong><\/span>. The selection committee will choose the two laureates based on the abstract, the nomination letter and the CV of the candidates.
